Mackenzie + Devon Tie The Knot

June 30, 2017

These two are a classic example of "high school sweethearts" which was adorable in and of itself, but the fact that they got married on his grandparents 50th wedding anniversary and his parents 25th wedding anniversary was too much for me to handle.

I was surprised at the ceremony when Devon's grandparents renewed their vows. The whole day was a dream and I couldn't have asked for a better couple to start this wedding season off with.

Mackenzie had her bridesmaids, her mom and her sister help her get ready on the morning of the wedding. They all got their hair and makeup done before meeting us at the church. To my surprise their makeup was done by themselves, which still floors me. Their hair was done by Tanya + Shea

All of the boys had custom pocket watches engraved with the wedding date, which couldn't get be any more classy, and they wouldn't let you forget it, waiting for any chance to pull out those bad boys and tell you the time. The watches were ordered from Amazon and engraved at Cross Iron Mills mall.

The ceremony was beautiful. Like I said earlier I was surprised half way through the ceremony when Devon's grandparents, who were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, renewed their vows in front of everyone. I absolutely love the last photo, just seeing Mackenzie's face in complete and utter bliss and Devon admiring his beautiful bride right after "the kiss".

I grew up just a few blocks away from where we shot the bridal party photos and remember driving by this park in the summer and seeing newly weds getting their photos taken here. Never did I think I would be back here one day as a photographer shooting in this location. Mackenzie, who is a fellow photographer and has an eye for these sort of things, had suggested the park to me. Although I had seen it all the time, I had never set foot in Senator Patrick Burns Garden. And now I want to go back with ALL of my couples. The light, the flowers, the shade of the trees, the weathered stone steps. It was picture perfect.

We finished the night off at the Cuff and Billy. Devon's dad is a police officer for the Calgary Police Service, and Devon is in the process of becoming an officer himself. The Cuff and Billy is a safe police bar transformed into such a gorgeous reception hall for this sweet couple and their loved ones. The food was catered by An Affair to Remember

Those cakes were so beautifully done, meant to look like young lovers carving their names into a birch tree. (Made by Nicole Padley - A neighbor of Mackenzie). Three cakes, one for Devon and Mackenzie of course, one for Devon's parents, celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary, and one for his grandparents celebrating their 50th. Not only that but during the reception and speeches, it came to light that there were at least three other couples celebrating their wedding anniversary there that day. If that isn't a good omen, I don't know what is.

Thanks again to D + M for trusting me to capture their day and for the friendship we left with. I wish you guys the best in your marriage and I am so happy for you guys.
