Jamie contacted me over two years ago inquiring about photography for her wedding. Instantly we clicked. And honestly, though I develop close relationships with many of my clients, I had never instantly felt a connection the way that I did with Jamie. I had also never been booked so far in advance as I had for Jamie + Dylan's wedding.
They were living in Saskatchewan and wanted to do a destination wedding in Canmore. They had spent time in the mountains early on in their relationship and it had become an important place to both of them for their relationship. I finally met them after corresponding for months via email when they came to Calgary for a visit and for their engagement photos. Of course we got along instantly, as if we were old friends at this point. And honestly, I think it is quite impossible to not get along with Jamie or Dylan as they are two of the most likeable people I have ever met. Their love is no surprise to anyone that knows them. These two were simply made for one another.
During their reception one of Jamie's bridesmaids said in her speech that Jamie used to write about Dylan in her journal in junior high school. She would replace her last name with his, and now, years later, after they fell back into each others lives much later on in life, here she was taking his last name for real.
They got ready at a hotel in Canmore and my second shooter, Caitlin shot the boys while I was with the girls. Jamie and Dylan did a first look where they read letters they had written for one another, standing side by side.
The ceremony and the reception were both held at the Canmore Miner's Union Hall. The hall was decorated beautifully, mostly orchestrated by Jamie's brother. After the ceremony we snuck out with the bridal party and the family and headed to Quarry Lake Park to take the photos. The sun was shining at this point but the sky looked ominous and soon enough the rain unleashed on us. Lucky for us it stopped, or at least slowed, in time to get some more photos of J+D at the Grassi Lakes trail head.
The reception was wonderful. But my favourite part of the entire evening was during the "father-daughter" dance where Jamie danced with her brother, he surprised her and pulled Dylan's dad in to take over. Jamie and Dylan's dad have a very close relationship, so him pulled her in for a dance was emotional for everyone.
I adore this couple. I adored their wedding. And I adore these photos to capture all of it. Thank you again J+D for trusting me with this job and for allowing to become a friend over this entire process. I wish you guys all of the best in your marriage ahead of you!
Can't wait to document more of your life's moments along the way. And to hang out all of the time when you move to Calgary ;)
